“If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life. And how do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul in the process? Is anything worth more than your soul?” Matthew 16:25-26
These scriptures stood out to me from my reading this morning. As believers, we truly have to meditate on Jesus' words right here. What is Christ saying? Are we willing to give up what we have, sometimes our comfort along with material possessions, in order to follow Him?
I relate this passage to the work of activists and the apprehension that keeps other Christians from boldly joining the movement. As believers, we can’t be worried about money, losing our jobs, or even the preservation of our "safe" image if we are fighting for and standing up for what is right for all of God’s people.
We have to believe that if we are seeking justice, that Jesus will provide for our needs. If a friend turns her back on us, another will give comfort. If we lose one job, we must believe that a better one is in store. If someone no longer financially supports us or our organization, trust that there’s another funding source out there. Whatever the loss, it will not outweigh the gain, and we should faint not because we have our integrity and our faith that God will surely take care of us. We can’t be afraid to stand up for what is right!
We have to stand on faith and not fear. I’m standing taller and my voice is getting louder. And to God be the glory!
