If police were treated like teachers . . .
- If police were treated like teachers, they
would have their police records, or data, posted on a wall by their name so that people could pass judgment on the quality of work
they do.
- If police were treated like teachers, they would
work at a station that was assigned an A-F grade, and people would avoid buying
houses in districts with failing grades.
- If police were treated like teachers, they would
be viewed as inferior or incompetent if they worked at a “bad” station.
- If police were treated like teachers, they would
be out of a job because “bad” stations would be shut down.
- If police were treated like teachers, every
member in their department would be fired and required to re-interview in order
to get their job back if the department was labeled as failing.
- If police were treated like teachers, each year their
effectiveness would be determined by a test that they did not take.
- If police were treated like teachers, there would be more individual accountability.
- If police departments were treated like schools,
the troubled ones would be placed under the label of “Transformation.” A team of experts would come into the
office and start monitoring the office’s every move. Police experts would ride along in the car with police
officers, observing them to make sure they were doing their job correctly. And if the experts saw that things were
not being executed properly, they would intervene and show the officers how to
do it the “right way."
